Contra Costa County Historical Society Announces Winners of the 2024 Essay Contest

Three Local Teens Each Win $1,500.00

Martinez, CA – The Board of Directors of the Contra Costa County Historical Society (CCCHS) announced today the winners of the 2024 CCCHS Essay Contest for high school seniors.

Applicants were required to write an original essay, between 1,200 and 1,500 words, with at least one primary and two secondary sources properly cited.  Essays were judged based on historical content, insightful analysis, writing quality, and originality on one of three topics:

  • From Borderlands to the 20th Century
  • Early 20th Century Experiences in Contra Costa County (1900-1945)
  • Post-War Contemporary Contra Costa County (1945 – present)
  • Free Choice: focuses on a person, place, event, or industry in Contra Costa County

The three winners are:

Ethan K. - Early 20th Century Experiences in Contra Costa County (1900-1945)

Ally G. - The Dawn of Time (free choice topic)

Tatiana A. - Old Borges Ranch: Vibrant Past and Educational Present (free choice topic)
