CCCHS is excited to announce our third annual essay contest! We will award up to three scholarships worth $1,500 each to three high school seniors in Contra Costa County.
Essays should address one of the following topics:
1. From Borderlands to the 20th Century: any feature or combination of the political, economic, and environmental changes in Contra Costa County from pre-colonial contact to 1900.
2. Early 20th Century Experiences in Contra Costa County (1900-1945): any feature or combination of the local, national, and international events that shaped Contra Costa County.
3. Post-War Contemporary Contra Costa County (1945 – present):any feature or combination of the county’s social, political, economic, and/or environmental history that was shaped or impacted by events that took place post-WWII.
4. Free Choice: focuses on a person, place, event, or industry in Contra Costa County, its impact on the community, and why it is important to the history of our county.
All entries must be a minimum of 1200-1500 words, in Times New Roman font, Double-spaced, 1-inch margins. Essays must be submitted in Word (docx). All entries must be original work with at least one primary and two secondary sources properly cited. Essays will be judged based on historical content, insightful analysis, writing quality, and originality.
All essays must be submitted by April 30th, 2024.
