Mount Diablo Aerial Beacon Restoration Talk
by John Gallagher
In 2013, volunteers John Gallagher and Dick Heron began the restoration process for the Aerial Beacon atop Mount Diablo. What began as a small twinkle in the eyes of volunteers exploded into a community-wide effort.
In Mary Nagle’s 2022 article for Save Mount Diablo titled, “John Gallagher: Long-Time Volunteer, Land Steward, and Board Member,” John says, “None of us knew that it was going to grow into this huge community project with front page articles in every newspaper, TV and radio interviews, the whole bit. We had no idea any of that was going to happen. This little project of replacing bearings and a new paint job blew into this huge undertaking as the community came forward.”
Join us as John recounts the process of how the historic aerial beacon was restored so that it may continue to shine on Contra Costa County.
John’s talk begins at 4:30 p.m.
