CCCHS Annual Meeting and Luncheon, Eugene O'Neill: His Life in Contra Costa County

Saturday, January 25, 2025

This year's program Eugene O’Neill: His Life in Contra Costa County, presented by the National Historic Site staff located at the Tao House in Danville, will delve into the life of Eugene O'Neill, one of America’s greatest playwrights, during the time he resided at Tao House in Contra Costa County.

Winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1936 brought increased attention and demands on Eugene O'Neill. Despite the accolades, O'Neill's primary desire was to find the time and solitude necessary to continue his writing while his health permitted. The creation of Tao House, his sanctuary in Danville, and the unwavering protectiveness of his wife, Carlotta Monterey, provided the environment he needed to focus on his work.
